Industrial Ethernet and Power Quality Measurement

The METSEPM5560 combines electrical metering with Ethernet and serial communications. The RS485 interface supports two-wire Modbus RTU, ASCII and JBUS operation, while the Ethernet interfaces support Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP and DNP3 over Ethernet. Ethernet/serial gateway functionality permits communication between the serial and Ethernet sides.

Power-quality measurement extends through the 63rd harmonic. The meter samples at 128 samples/cycle and measures voltage, current, frequency, power factor, energy, active power and reactive power. Neutral current is measured directly, while ground current can be calculated. Four digital inputs provide WAGES monitoring functions, and two digital outputs provide control signaling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What supply voltage can the METSEPM5560 accept?
A: The specified supply range is 90 to 528 VAC at 45 to 65 Hz or 100 to 300 VDC.

Q: What communication interfaces are provided?
A: The meter provides an RS485 interface and two RJ45 Ethernet ports. Supported protocols include Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, JBUS, Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP and DNP3 over Ethernet.

Q: What electrical configurations are supported?
A: The meter supports single-phase plus neutral, three-phase, and three-phase plus neutral configurations, with 1 A or 5 A line-rated current inputs.

Field Installation Guidelines

  • Install the meter as a flush-mounted device using the specified panel mounting arrangement.
  • Maintain separation between voltage/current measurement wiring and communication wiring to reduce conducted interference.
  • Connect current transformer circuits according to the applicable current-input wiring arrangement and verify polarity before energization.
  • Use the RS485 two-wire connection with appropriate communication cable practices and termination according to the network topology.
  • Route Ethernet cables separately from high-current or high-noise conductors where practical.
  • Bond cable shields according to the plant grounding and EMC design. Avoid creating unintended ground loops.
  • Verify the measurement voltage, CT secondary rating, phase sequence and neutral connection before applying operating voltage.
  • Confirm the required Modbus, BACnet or DNP3 addressing and communication parameters before connecting the meter to the control network.
  • Keep the rear of the meter within the specified IP30 protection conditions and the front panel within its IP54 protection conditions.
  • Verify ambient temperature and humidity remain within the specified operating limits.
