ABB has announced a strategic partnership with LevelTen Energy, coupled with a minority investment in the company. For those unfamiliar with LevelTen, it operates the world's largest marketplace for clean energy transactions—specialising in power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other renewable energy deals. Headquartered in the United States, the company has already facilitated more than 20 GW of clean energy transactions across more than 35 markets in North America and Europe, serving a diverse range of clients including hyperscalers, commercial and industrial firms, and utilities. This partnership, however, is about more than just financial backing; it is about combining complementary strengths to address one of the most pressing challenges facing businesses today.
Businesses today are under immense pressure to decarbonise their operations. Yet securing access to reliable, affordable clean electricity has proven to be one of the most intricate hurdles on the road to net zero. The timing of this partnership is particularly significant, given the rapid evolution of regulatory expectations. More businesses are moving beyond annual renewable energy matching toward more stringent requirements around when and where clean energy is generated and consumed. This shift is driving greater reliance on technologies such as battery energy storage systems, microgrids, and advanced energy management solutions—areas where ABB already has extensive expertise. LevelTen's capabilities in clean energy contracting and environmental attribute certificate trading complement these technologies perfectly, enabling customers to build more comprehensive and verifiable decarbonisation strategies.

Alongside recent investments such as Gridcog, ABB is expanding its capabilities across energy procurement, advisory, and energy and carbon services. The goal is to help commercial and industrial customers accelerate their energy transition and make more informed energy decisions. This investment was made through ABB Electrification Ventures, the venture capital arm of ABB's Electrification business area. Since 2021, ABB Electrification Ventures has invested more than $110 million in 18 startups. More broadly, ABB Ventures—the group-wide venture capital framework—has invested over $500 million in startups aligned with its electrification, automation, and motion portfolio since its formation in 2010.
