A Strategic Expansion for Global LNG Demand
Due to the rising need for power to fuel data centers and artificial intelligence centers, Honeywell is in joyous mood to announce its new office in Lehigh Valley at 6575 Snowdrift Road in Allentown. It marks a crucial event in bolstering its business in the field of Liquid Natural Gas and catering to the ever-boosting demand for energy in the world.
In 2024, Honeywell acquired the LNG business of Air Products in a deal worth $1.81 billion. The strategy is aimed at ensuring it provides comprehensive technology solutions to the energy sector. With this, Honeywell is poised to offer energy transition management from inception to completion through scalable and innovative solutions.
Leadership Perspectives on the Acquisition
Ken West, President and CEO of Honeywell’s Energy and Sustainability Solutions segment, emphasized: “With the integration of the LNG business, we will be able to provide a greater level of energy transition management from beginning to end through a full spectrum of scalable solutions.”
Similarly, John Palamara, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell’s LNG Business, highlighted that Air Products’ liquefaction technology complements Honeywell’s LNG pretreatment solutions. In addition, the acquisition includes in-house design and manufacturing of coil-wound heat exchangers and related equipment, further strengthening Honeywell’s portfolio.

LNG’s Role in Energy Security
LNG is expected to play a vital role in supporting energy security and expanding global access to reliable supply, particularly with the rising energy demand driven by AI and data centers. Palamara noted that the Lehigh Valley office will serve as a hub for innovation, engineering, and project execution, ensuring efficient LNG production and reinforcing global energy resilience.
Moreover, Honeywell technology is already used to pretreat about 40% of the world’s LNG and provides liquefaction technology for nearly two-thirds of global capacity. Therefore, the company’s expertise is deeply embedded in the global LNG ecosystem.
Harnessing Experience and Talent
When Honeywell acquired Air Products’ LNG business, it gained more than 50 years of technological expertise and a team of around 100 highly skilled engineers and professionals. Palamara proudly stated: “The talent that we have here is huge. These are highly skilled people we have been able to attract or retain in Allentown.”
As a result, the Lehigh Valley community is now home to a dedicated hub that will play a crucial role in advancing LNG technologies. Honeywell continues to invest heavily in research and development, ensuring that the solutions created here will support global energy needs.
A Portfolio for the Future
Honeywell's LNG solutions fall under its Energy & Sustainability Solutions business segment, which is set to be reorganized as Process Technology shortly. The business segment is catering to the most pressing needs in industries through advanced pumps & compressors, LNG solutions, catalysts, and digital & aftermarket solutions. Beyond that, it is also attempting to make production more efficient and affordable with future fuel solutions.
As Palamara predicted, the ease of transportation of LNG and the fact that it is cleaner-burned than many other energy sources mean that it will continue to be a foundation of energy optimization. Thus, efforts to improve the technology of converting natural gas into LNG will be critical in expanding the use of LNG to facilitate the energy transformation.
