A Major Commitment towards Canadian Technology and Production
In a much-needed boost to Canada's technology and manufacturing sectors, ABB has committed a massive amount of over CA130million (approximatelyUS100 million) to significantly expand its research and development (R&D) and production capabilities for intelligent power protection and grid resilience solutions in the country.
This bold investment will see ABB consolidate its existing Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu operations in Montreal, Quebec, into a single new, high-tech greenfield facility.
This investment will enable ABB to more effectively serve the increasing demand in Canada's core growth sectors, including utilities, renewable energy, transportation, and residential and infrastructure projects.
It's proof of ABB's firm belief in the promise of Canada.
A State-of-the-Art Facility for Collaborative Growth
The new, cutting-edge 340,000 sq. ft. production and R&D facility will be more than 33 percent bigger than the combined space of the two facilities it will combine.
Above all, it will feature cutting-edge production automation and advanced digital technologies to provide the foundation for greater efficiency and innovation.
With this unification of ABB's existing operations in Iberville and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, over 600 qualified personnel from various functions like manufacturing, R&D, engineering, testing, and support will be brought together under one efficient collaborative work environment.
Also, with new product lines being added and production capacities increasing in the future, this enormous investment is certain to generate additional beneficial job roles for the region.
Fueling Growth Across Key Canadian Sectors
Our investment will contribute to funding our future growth in Canada, as demand increases with customers focusing on grid resilience, power distribution and renewables, and new transport, buildings and infrastructure projects," states Khalid Mandri, President of ABB Installation Products.
This remark shows the sense behind this important investment.
The ultra-professional teams in this new cutting-edge center will be at the forefront of creating groundbreaking products and solutions that will drive Canadian homes and companies.
The investment in Canada is also a significant contribution to ABB's overall global expansion strategy, complementing the investment in the United States and Europe in recent years.

A Sustainable and Forward-Thinking Infrastructure
The environmentally friendly, cutting-edge facility will officially open its doors halfway through 2027 and will be strategically placed on Montreal, Quebec's South Shore region.
Demonstrating commitment to being environmentally friendly, the plant will have clean, energy-efficient electrical systems and cutting-edge heating systems.
The thoughtful design will conserve energy and sharply cut back on carbon emissions by over 95 percent over the two existing plants.
This significant contribution to the environment supports Canada's and ABB's global sustainability goals.
Supported by Strategic Partnerships and Local Support
This impactful project is further supported by investment of CA16million(US12 million) by Investissement Québec, illustrating the collaborative spirit in driving economic growth and technology development in the province.
It's also noteworthy that over 80 percent of the goods ABB Installation Products sells in Canada are locally produced or assembled, with 70 percent of content sourced from within Canada—and 100 percent Canadian steel and aluminum.
This measure of local dedication to source is a testament to ABB's deep tie to the Canadian economy.
Following a Tradition of Investment in Canada
This news represents ABB's largest investment in Canada to date.
In the last decade, ABB has shown a persistent commitment to the Canadian market, investing approximately US$275 million in its Canadian facilities.
These investments have helped to advance advanced manufacturing methods, drive innovation, and support workforce development in the past.
They comprise of important upgrades to major facilities, the addition of state-of-the-art automation technologies, and developing local capabilities and production capacity.
This latest significant investment continues to show ABB's vision for long-term growth and innovation in Canada.
