Honeywell Elevates Battery Safety with Li-ion Tamer Acquisition

📈 Honeywell Enhances Fire Safety Portfolio with Li-ion Tamer Acquisition

Honeywell has significantly expanded its fire life safety technologies within its Building Automation business segment through the acquisition of Nexceris' Li-ion Tamer business.
The strategic acquisition, announced recently by Honeywell, brings aboard a leading off-gas detection solution for lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries to complement its robust portfolio.
The alliance with Nexceris over the past five years was the foundation of this acquisition, which is expected to benefit Honeywell's finances immediately.
This collaboration is an example of Honeywell's continuous efforts to be a part of solving the most critical safety concerns of Li-ion battery systems.

⚠️ Meeting Exploding Demand and Growing Risks

Li-ion battery demand is expected to increase by more than 30% annually through 2030, when the market is expected to exceed $400 billion.
This rapid expansion traverses key fields from cloud computing to renewable energy, making the need for further advanced battery safety solutions even more urgent.
🔋 When not monitored and detected in time, the catastrophic effects of thermal runaway—a situation where a battery overheats and is capable of causing fire—can result in the loss of an entire system.
Li-ion Tamer addresses this challenge directly by providing innovative early warning technology that detects battery off-gassing, a key indicator that typically precedes thermal runaway.
🚨 This revolutionary solution provides facilities with a precious window of up to 30 minutes to respond before a battery fire begins, which has made it the preferred choice of leading battery OEMs worldwide.

🛠️ At the Forefront of Battery Fire Prevention

"As lithium-ion battery usage grows rapidly in data centers, EV infrastructure, and grid-scale energy storage, the risk of fire is growing right along with it," said Billal Hammoud, president and CEO of Honeywell's Building Automation business.
He added, "Li-ion Tamer's early warning technology has been a game-changer for our customers and partners over the last five years.
Building on our legacy partnership, this product suite acquisition will make Honeywell a leader in early gas detection and battery fire prevention.
We expect this tuck-in acquisition to further drive growth of our fire detection business."

Li-ion Tamer's product portfolio, which is protected by more than 30 global patents, will be easily integrated into Honeywell's Building Automation business.
The integration enables Honeywell to offer a full range of fire detection products, complementing its already advanced smoke detection technology and life safety solutions perfectly.
These comprise VESDA, the leading solution for detecting the earliest presence of a potential fire, and Connected Life Safety Services, which leverages the Honeywell Forge IoT Platform to provide the vital connectivity and intelligence for safe, compliant, and more effective fire system management.

💡 Strategic Portfolio Evolution at Honeywell

The acquisition is the latest in a series of strategic initiatives by Honeywell to simplify its portfolio and drive organic growth.
It follows the company's release of the planned spin-offs of its Aerospace Technologies and Solstice Advanced Materials businesses into three publicly traded industry leaders with divergent strategies and growth drivers.
🧠 Honeywell has been aggressively pursuing strategic initiatives since December 2023 that comprise $13.5 billion of accretive acquisitions of Carrier Global's Access Solutions business, Civitanavi Systems, CAES Systems, Air Products' LNG business, Sundyne, and Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies Business.
Separately, Honeywell announced last month that it completed the sale of its Personal Protective Equipment business to Protective Industrial Products, demonstrating its focus on core, high-growth segments.
