Harnessing the Future: Borouge and Honeywell Pioneer AI-Powered Petrochemical Operations

As part of a move that will revolutionize the petrochemical industry, Borouge Plc, a leading polyolefins solutions provider, has teamed up with Honeywell to develop an artificial intelligence-powered autonomous control room.

The historic collaboration will serve as proof of concept for real-time, commercial-scale autonomous operation, and could transform Borouge's plant facilities in the UAE.

This initiative is a massive milestone, aimed at establishing a new global standard for applying artificial intelligence in petrochemicals.

🌐 A Shared Vision for Innovation and Efficiency

Both firms are bringing their respective experience to the partnership to execute this groundbreaking technology.

Borouge CEO Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi emphasized the importance of this partnership in the overall digitalization of the company:
"With the addition of world leaders in AI like Honeywell, we are driving growth, energizing efficiency, and driving shareholder value. This further reinforces Borouge's competitive edge as we continue to implement our ambitious AIDT plan."

Similarly, George Bou Mitri, Honeywell Industrial Automation, Middle East, Turkey, Africa, Central Asia's President, emphasized the power of their combined efforts:
"Our collaboration with Borouge is a clear demonstration of how cooperation can stimulate innovation throughout industry. By integrating AI and automation technologies into day-to-day operations, we are empowering new levels of efficiency, safety, and performance."

The shared vision is the driving force behind the project.

⚡ Releasing New Levels of Performance at Ruwais

The ultimate goal of this project is to deploy the proof-of-concept technologies in Borouge's massive Ruwais complexes in the UAE.

The use of autonomous operation will allow Borouge to maximize output, reduce energy consumption significantly, and enhance safety across what will be the world's biggest single petrochemical site.

The new method of work is also intended to save a significant amount of cost.

📈 Driving Value Through AIDT

This initiative is one of Borouge's essential pillars of its integrated AI, Digitalization, and Technology (AIDT) program.

This company-wide initiative is already generating hard value, with projections to finish this year at $575 million.

Borouge's broad portfolio of over 200 AIDT initiatives across operations, health and safety, sales, sustainability, and product innovation—a portfolio that spans its business—generated an impressive $573 million in value alone in 2024, reflecting the enormous potential of this transformation.
