Egypt Endorses ABB’s Expansion to Drive Electrical Manufacturing Growth

Government Commitment to Industrial Development

Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met with Ahmed Hammad, Chairperson of ABB Egypt, to review the company’s expansion plans in the Egyptian market. This meeting not only reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Egypt’s electrical and engineering industries but also emphasized ABB’s role in supporting national development projects.

Highlighting Manufacturing Strength

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Hussein El Ghazawy, Advisor to the Minister for Energy Affairs, Ahmed Osama, Head of the Minister’s Technical Office, and Abdallah Qassem, Head of Energy Solutions Business and Factory Director at ABB Egypt. ABB showcased its manufacturing capabilities through its main production facility in 10th of Ramadan City—its largest hub in the Middle East and Africa—alongside two additional factories in Nasr City and the Suez Free Zones.

Expanding Exports and Local Content

ABB reported that local content reaches up to 78% in some products. Furthermore, nearly 25% of its total production in 2025 was exported to more than 50 countries, with destinations rising to over 60 during the first half of 2026. Advancing Sustainability and Efficiency

The discussions also focused on ABB’s plans to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions across its facilities. These initiatives aim to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian-made products in European and global markets. Additionally, ABB expressed interest in joining the government’s Shams El-Sinaa (Industry Solar Initiative) by installing rooftop solar systems at its factories, reducing reliance on the national grid and supporting sustainable industrial production.

Aligning with Industrial Strategy 2030

Minister Hashem emphasized that electrical and engineering industries are among the seven priority sectors under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030. He described the sector as a key pillar for meeting domestic demand, expanding exports, localizing advanced technologies, and increasing value-added manufacturing. He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting ABB by addressing operational challenges and encouraging the development of local suppliers.

ABB’s Long-Term Vision for Egypt

Ahmed Hammad highlighted ABB’s century-long presence in Egypt, describing the country as one of its most strategic markets in the region. He emphasized ABB’s ongoing investments in advanced technologies and local capabilities, providing integrated solutions that improve productivity, enhance sustainability, reduce energy consumption, and strengthen global competitiveness—all in line with Egypt’s vision for a more advanced and sustainable industrial sector.
