Baker Hughes Selected to Deliver Key Equipment for ST LNG’s Offshore LNG Terminal in Texas

Strategic Partnership for a Landmark Offshore LNG Project

Baker Hughes has been chosen to provide essential gas compression equipment, power generation gear, and project development services for the ambitious LNG export terminal project of ST LNG, with a capacity to export 8.4 million tonnes per annum. This project was initially announced in June 2025 by the privately held company, as it also seeks a vital deepwater port license from the U.S. Maritime Administration. Furthermore, this partnership represents a significant milestone in the development of offshore LNG infrastructure in the U.S.

Project Scope and Development Timeline

The intended ST LNG DWP project will comprise as many as four liquefaction facilities, to be built on fixed structures, with nominal capacities of 2.1 mtpa, giving the project a total planned capacity of 8.4 mtpa. In addition, the first phase will be designed to achieve first production by mid-2030, with the terminal to be built in the Brazos Block BA-476, located off the southeast coast of Matagorda in the United States federal waters. As such, the project will be able to export its product to any country that is capable of importing it via ocean-going vessels.

Proven Technology Selected for Reliability

Mr. Sharad Tak, the CEO of ST LNG, was quite optimistic about the partnership and said, “As we move forward towards the completion of the first phase of the project, it is essential that we select a proven technology from a reliable company with domain expertise.” Accordingly, Baker Hughes will provide two LM6000PF gas turbine-driven Centrifugal Compressor Trains and three NovaLT16 Gas Turbine Generator Packages to deliver the required production capacity for the first 2.1 mtpa phase of the project. Moreover, the complete equipment solution and the support that Baker Hughes will provide for the development of the project will be a key factor in achieving first LNG in the second quarter of 2030.

A Significant Milestone for Baker Hughes

Baker Hughes considers this agreement to be a significant milestone, especially with the project progressing towards a final investment decision (FID). As a result, Baker Hughes is likely to record orders from this agreement during the course of the development project. Lorenzo Simonelli, Baker Hughes’ Chairman and CEO, emphasized their LNG solutions’ flexibility by saying, "Our LNG solutions portfolio is designed to support a wide range of operational requirements, from large-scale onshore facilities to specialized offshore solutions such as ST LNG's. We look forward to working closely with ST LNG to deliver reliable, efficient, and lower-carbon solutions."

Further Momentum in Baker Hughes’ LNG Portfolio

Aside from the ST LNG venture, Baker Hughes is making strides in the global energy industry. The company recently won a number of key contracts, such as a long-term contract with Petrobras to support the company’s essential turbomachinery equipment for Brazil’s offshore and refinery operations. This clearly indicates that there is increasing need for Baker Hughes’ established expertise in both onshore and offshore LNG applications.
