Baker Hughes Marks Significant Milestone with 36.9% Cut in Operational Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Report Overview: Major Strides in Emissions Reduction

According to its recently released sustainability report, Baker Hughes has achieved a significant 36.9% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to its 2019 baseline. This achievement represents the company’s largest emissions reduction to date, underscoring its commitment to a lower-carbon future. Moreover, operational emissions intensity dropped by 45.8% over the same period, proving that environmental stewardship and profitable growth can indeed go hand in hand.

Drivers of Progress: Renewable Energy and Efficiency Gains

The report highlights that nearly half of the reduction in facility emissions—specifically, a 49.0% decrease in combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions—can be attributed to increased use of renewable energy and enhanced operational efficiencies. These efforts are part of a broader corporate strategy rooted in strong governance and a “People First” culture, which together help embed sustainability into everyday operations.

Leadership Perspectives: Combining Purpose with Performance

“Sustainability underpins The Energy Equation™, ensuring that both industrial outcomes and energy sources are more efficient, more reliable, and more secure,” stated Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes. He emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability as it develops solutions for both traditional and new energy sources.
Echoing this sentiment, Chief Sustainability Officer Allyson Anderson Book noted, “Our 2025 sustainability report shows the largest reduction in absolute operational emissions since our net-zero commitment in 2019, demonstrating that profit and purpose can go together.” She also highlighted the role of employee-driven initiatives like Carbon Out, which integrates sustainability considerations across the entire business.
