ABB Earns Back-to-Back 'A' from CDP, Water Score Rises to A-

GetsShining Continuously: ABB Gets CDP 'A' Score for Climate Change Transparency for Second Consecutive Year

This recognition by the global environmental non-profit organization, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), is definitely a great honor for ABB . To receive a place on the CDP's annual 'A List' for climate change two years in a row is not a grade; it's ABB 's firm commitment and high performance in combating climate change. ABB 's 'A' grade shines brightly from among over 22,000 companies that were assessed globally, telling the world that meaningful environmental leadership is more than words, but tangible action and transparent accountability. What's even more heartening is ABB 's higher CDP Water score, now A-, which is a strong endorsement of their work in water resource management. It's worth recalling that more than 700 financial institutions, managing assets over US$142 trillion, use the CDP to learn about companies' data on climate change, forests, and water security – the gravity of this trust is significant.

The Strategic Foundation of Sustainable Development: An Ideal Mixture of Objectives and Practice

ABB 's Group Head of Sustainability, Anke Hampel, was elated: "Being named in CDP's A List for the second consecutive year is a strong recognition of our strategic focus on sustainability." Not only does this statement acknowledge the achievements of the past, but it also holds out hope for the future. ABB had already set ambitious net-zero targets in June 2024, and these have been rigorously validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These cover near-term targets for 2030 alongside long-term ambitions out to 2050. Most significantly is the fact that these targets cover not only ABB 's own operations but emissions across its entire value chain. Furthermore, the improved water score, as mentioned by Ms. Hampel, is a result of ABB 's improved governance and active collaboration with suppliers on the critical issue of water risk. This indicates that ABB is not merely giving lip service to sustainability, but they are earnestly integrating it into their corporate strategy and business.

The Power of Transparency: Driving Environmental Leadership

CDP employs a strict independent methodology to evaluate the environmental performance of companies. From its top grade of A to its lowest of D-, each score is determined by an overall evaluation of a company's disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks, and consideration of best practices in line with environmental leadership. Companies that fail to disclose or disclose partially are graded with an F. This tough rating system is a strong pressure for companies to be more ecologically oriented and active. Repeatedly receiving such high rates by ABB is a clear indication of its transparency in disclosing information and of its strong engagement for the safeguard of the environment. A company willing to openly release its environmental information is generally more likely to achieve its sustainable development goals.
